KC GRAD gallery, Belgrade, Serbia, 2015
Sakari Viika has created during his residency within the GRAD residency program in Belgrade in November 2014 a series of photographs related to the local contemporary city, archeology and its layers of time.
Viika's working method consists of walks. A clip from Neša Paripović's 8 mm film shown on a lecture by Branislav Dimitrijević became a kind of motto for the work. In the film the artist walks straight line through Belgrade. In contrast, Viika's walks in Belgrade were ”unorganized zigzag”. He let intuition to lead him to unpredictable locations for surprising views. The series shows a multifaceted and poetic scene of the city and it's every day and abandoned sites and situations.
